Denture Relines

Maintaining the Perfect Fit

As time passes, your gum tissues may change over time changing the way your dentures fit. Sometimes this can cause your dentures to become loose or more prone to movement. If this is happening to you, it may be time you talked to us about having your dentures relined. This generally occurs about every one to two years. There are few types of relines we can consider before finding one that’s right for you such as a:

  • Hard reline – A hard reline is recommended for all full dentures every two years. This is where we remove a layer of plastic from the interior surface of your dentures before filling them with a putty-like material which conforms to your mouth for a precise impression. The denture is sent to the lab for adjustment so you enjoy a more comfortable fit.
  • Soft reline – We may recommend a soft reline if you’re unable to wear ordinary dentures due to tender gums or sore spots. We use material that remains pliable for up to two years before requiring replacement.
  • Temporary reline – If your dentures haven’t been checked out or adjusted in a long time, it can cause your gums to become irritated. A temporary or medicated reline material may be recommended to allow your inflammation to subside.
